Cold coffee has gone from a café novelty to a daily ritual for millions of Indians — particularly during the eight or nine months a year when the weather makes you want something cold in your hand. The good news is that you do not need a machine, a French press, or any special equipment to make genuinely great cold coffee at home. You only need instant coffee, milk, and a few minutes.
Recipe 1 — The basic cold coffee (3 ingredients, 5 minutes)
This is the version most Indians grew up with, made in a blender or shaker.
Ingredients: 2 teaspoons of Continental Speciale instant coffee, 200ml chilled full-fat milk, 2 teaspoons of sugar, a handful of ice.
Method: Dissolve the coffee in a tablespoon of warm water first — this prevents undissolved coffee granules in the final drink. Add to a blender with the chilled milk, sugar, and ice. Blend for 20–30 seconds until frothy. Pour and serve immediately.
Recipe 2 — Dalgona cold coffee
Dalgona became famous worldwide and the recipe has not changed — it is still one of the most satisfying cold coffees you can make at home. For the full recipe with four variations, read our dedicated guide: How to Make Dalgona Coffee at Home.
Quick version: Whip 2 teaspoons each of Continental Speciale, sugar, and hot water until thick and glossy. Spoon over iced milk.
Recipe 3 — Hazelnut iced coffee
Café-style in 2 minutes. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of Continental Speciale Hazelnut in 30ml warm water. Pour over a glass of ice and cold milk. Stir and serve. The Mocha and Vanilla variants work equally well.
Recipe 4 — Cold brew concentrate
Dissolve 3 teaspoons of Continental Freeze Dried or Percol in 50ml of warm water. Add 200ml of cold water. Refrigerate for 2+ hours. Serve over ice. The freeze-dried versions work best here because their aroma compounds hold up better during cold extraction.
Tips for better cold coffee at home
- Always dissolve instant coffee in a small amount of warm water before adding to cold milk
- Use full-fat chilled milk for the creamiest result
- For dairy-free, oat milk froths well and has natural sweetness that complements coffee
- Make a coffee concentrate batch and refrigerate for up to 48 hours for even faster preparation
